It has been the endeavour
of the Diocese to provide education under Christian auspices to the highest
levels possible. The C. M.S. missionaries
pioneered in University education in South India with 2 of our premier Colleges:
St. John's College, Palayamkottai which is only the successor to what began
as 'C.M.S. College' in 1878 and Sarah Tucker College, Palayamkottai, in 1895.
Both have shown phenomenal growth all through the one century of their
existence with well-furnished lecture halls, well-stocked libraries, spacious
auditoriums, extensive playgrounds, and offering courses which maintain the
highest academic standards.
To these 2 pioneer Colleges at its headquarters, the Diocese recently added C.S.I. Jeyaraj Annabakkiam College, Nallur .
These colleges are affiliated to the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli and are being managed by the Tirunelveli Diocesan Trust Association - the Educational Agency of the Tirunelveli Diocese in the Church of South India. As Christian minority institutions, these Colleges are primarily meant for the higher education of the Protestant Christian Youth of the Tirunelveli Diocese in the Church of India. However admission is open to other students as well, irrespective of caste and creed.

Sarah Tucker College, Palayamkottai
Sarah Tucker College, the first college for women in South India, owes its origin
to Miss Sarah Tucker of England and her friends, who raised money for the founding
of a small school for training teachers for elementary schools in Tirunelveli
District. After this the Sarah Tucker High School was started, which was raised
to a College in 1895. Today it is a First Grade Post-graduate Institution. Besides
good laboratories, the college has an excellent Library and a large Computer
Centre. The Auditorium in the College is one of the best in Asia. The college
has 3 hostels attached to it which can accommodate about 600 students.
