Beloved in Christ,
Greetings to you in the sweet name of Jesus Christ who manifested himself in the form of a baby almost two thousand years ago. I am very happy to communicate with the readers of Narpothagam as the Bishop’s Commissary.
The birth of December makes us think of the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ.
“. . . .there is a born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour who is Christ, the Lord . . . Let us go to Bethlehem” (Lk. 2:15).
The very name of Bethlehem has been reigning in our ears since our childhood because the village is not only so dear to our heart but historically important as well.
We know the biography of many rules and reformers. They have done a lot to the betterment of the people. Their greatness is known to the world only after their service to humanity. Nothing is said about their birth is advance. But the birth of Lord Jesus Christ the son of God, Prince of Peace, Counselor and mighty God – was as named in advance. The country where he will be born (Num.25:17), the place of his birth (Micah 5:2), his genealogical root (Is. 11:1), who will be his mother (Is. 7:14), the reason for his incorporation (Matt 1:21) and what kind of person he will be (Is.9:6) were fourfold only about Jesus Christ and that is the reason why Christmas is celebrated as a festival of Festivals.
Bethlehem which means `the house of bread’ abound with olive groves, fig trees and vineyards. This prosperous village is the place where the miracle of God’s becoming a man took place. There is a big star made of silver in the Church of Bethlehem. The sentence, “Jesus was born to Mary here’ is etched in that star. Come on! Let us also go to Bethlehem – not to see the Church but to enjoy watching the scene wherein the host of angels and shepherds witnessed and worshipped the new born saviour. How was it possible for them to praise him, “Holy holy holy . . . when they saw the babe in the manger? Though the world is skeptical and hostile, the shepherds were not surprised at the command to worship him’ because they had known the secret that “God so loved the world that he have his only begotten son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life”.
Beloved, if we want to praise and worship the boy-child of Bethlehem, we must be cognizant of God’s love for mankind and have the feeling that it is not for sinners but it is for my sake God came to this world in the form of Jesus. If we have the feeling it will make the Christmas a unique festival and help us to dedicate our life to him.
That the incarnation of God who created the universe and the earth is beyond the comprehension of the wise.
May God bless you.
