Mr. V. Vethanayagam established the North Nellai Mission along with Rev. Ragland. Mr. V. Vethanayagam resided at Vagaikulam and he brought many people into the church fold. In 1858 there were five Christian families. In 1861 he built a church with tower, with the help of Rev. Ragland. Then in 1864 the church was extended further. There a schools for boys and another for girls.
