The congregation at Alwaneri was established by Rev. CTE Rhenius in 1829 with 8 families accepting Christ. The first church was built in 1846. The present St. Paul's Church at Alwaneri celebrated its centenary in 2000. A new church was built at Yeduppoor (Christ Church) which was dedicated by Rt. Rev. S Jeyapaul David, Bishop in Tirunelveli on 25 November 2000.
